Punkupdates.com (B):
Yep
It took them an awfully long time,
but finally Flatcat is here with a full-length album!
And to be honest
.it meets my expectations perfectly.
Im pretty sure everybody in Belgium knows Flatcat
through their realli good live performances (a.o.
Groezrock) and maybe even the Four Lessons to
Drive split-cd widh Reset, Belvedere and the
Brazilian band Predial
.But now finally, a full-length!
The album starts really energetic with Dodgin'
the Bullet, a really fast punkrock anthem. Secondly,
Beautiful in Venice now also released
on Eye Spy recs as a 7, and I must admit that
this is a really great song. A bit poppy, very melodic,
and catchy! Just like Better luck Next time
and Hard To Play which are all songs kinda
written from the same idea, but hell, it works just
fine!! Try not singing along!!! These are songs that
couldve easily been written by No Use
on
their last two albums.
Coversongs you ask? YES! They do a great version of
the Decendents Silly Girl! Though
I wouldve preferred to see their Ten Foot Pole-cover
on the album..but hey, you cant have it all!!
Now, as a musician myself I cannot overlook their
technical abilities. These dudes really master their
respective instruments really well, and that makes
it a really tight album. So, question is
are
there any songs on this album that maybe shouldnt
have been on it? Answer is, unfortunately, to my humble
opinion, yes. Two to be exact
.I just cant
relate to New song dedicated to you, and
Mr. Popular guy. Sure, theyre not
bad, but they just dont reach the level of the
rest of the album. Anyway, to cut this review a bit
shorter, Flatcat recorded brilliant punkrocksongs,
an album with a variety of songs, which could easily
compete with most of the American West-coastbands.
Flatcat puise
