Death Before Disco/Severance
Split

DEATH BEFORE DISCO - Now this is a Belgian band that has the potential to go all the way. They’re around for quite a while now, but have gone through a lot of line-up changes and hard decisions to form a band in which every member has the technical abilities, the motivation and the same goals. They’re a six-piece band and only guitarists Birger and Frederik and singer Stefaan were around when the band started out as Pright in december 1997. Bass player Antoine joined the band in september 2000. At that point they recorded four songs for a split-cd with Severance. The songs illustrate that they were still searching their identity as a band. “We never were interested in recycling music from other bands, but wanted to make music that was truly original, music that would define us as a band”, says guitarist Fred. The songs on the split with Severance were very technical and destructured, much like Converge or Botch. “We proved to be technically good musicians, but most of the songs were more like a combination of riffs, instead of songs with an own atmosphere. So that became our focus in the process of writing new material,” says singer Stefaan. “We are also constantly searching for new challenges when writing music. We’d never keep it up if we’d have to repeat the same old trick. That’s why at the end of 2000 we started looking our for a new singer who could sing the clean vocal parts, someone with a voice like Chino Deftones or Keith Life of Agony.” Eventually they found a new singer by the name of Jean-Pierre. “I felt that it was no longer a challenge to write lyrics with screamy vocals,” says Stefaan, “A new singer meant a exponantional increase of new possibilities for the band, considering the music itself, as well as the lyrics and the diversity of the music.” It took them quite some time to find a new style and sound that they were all pleased with, but when they did, they were instantly being called one of the most promising Belgian underground metal band. Finally they had created a new sound that could distinguish them from the other bands, which is necessary these days if you want to stand out in today’s Hardcore Scene. Their music is the perfect compromise between moshable metallic hardcore à la Eighteen Vision or PTW and accesible ‘nu-metal’ à la Deftones. During the first half of 2002 they recorded three songs to be released on a split with California's WHAT LIES WITHIN on goodlife recordings. Currently they have also replaced their drummer Tijl Verhée by Ace Zic and now they’re 100% ready to conquer your world. If you want them to play on your show contact Birger on xfinox@hotmail.com
